Wheelchairs and walkers for physiotherapy

Seat width and walker height are measured on the patient

For a wheelchair, seat width is measured on the seated patient: hips plus about two fingers on each side. Too wide forces the arms out to reach the push rims, and the shoulder pays for it within a few months. Too narrow hurts the skin at the side of the hip.

For a walker, the height sits at the wrist crease with the arm hanging relaxed, so the elbow works slightly bent. A rollator, with wheels and a seat, is for someone who already has balance and needs to stop and rest; a standard walker gives more stability to someone who does not.
