How to track progress on a pedal exerciser

The equipment gives the stimulus; the record is what shows the patient improved. Time, resistance and range noted every session become the curve you show the patient when they feel stuck.

What to look at before buying pedals and cycle ergometers

Criteria from someone who uses it with patients, not from someone who only sells it.

Axle height is the most ignored criterion and the number one reason a patient cannot use the pedals: a high axle forces the knee up to close the revolution, and anyone short of knee flexion locks up at the top of the circle.

Nothing in this price range gives a calibrated load — the resistance is friction, with no scale you can trust. Good for conditioning and range of motion, not for prescribing an objective load.
