Choosing practice software usually starts the same way: five pricing pages open in five tabs, a spreadsheet, and the growing suspicion that none of the numbers are comparable. They are not. One price is per practitioner, one is per band of practitioners, one is a base plus extras, one is free until you send a text message. And the headline figure almost never includes the SMS reminders, the claiming or the second physio.
This is an attempt to do that comparison properly. We sell one of the products in it, so you will also see where ours falls short — including the part where, for many Australian and UK practices, it is simply the wrong choice.
How we compared
We read each vendor's official pricing and feature pages on 28 September 2026. Most of them change currency with the visitor's country, so we quote the price for the country in the table. Where a page contradicts itself, we say so instead of picking the version that suits us. Where no price is published, we say "quote only".
The criteria are the ones that change the month-three bill:
- Price for one practitioner with the features a physio actually uses.
- Price for three practitioners, the most common size of a small clinic.
- SMS reminders: included, capped or charged per message.
- Claiming: Medicare, DVA, HICAPS and private health funds in Australia, ACC in New Zealand, Healthcode in the UK, direct billing in Canada.
- Free plan or trial, and whether a card is required.
Prices change. Australian prices below exclude GST and UK prices exclude VAT unless we say otherwise, and two vendors were running 50%-off promotions for new customers when we checked. Before you commit, open the official page: every section links to it.

What sits behind each headline price
Cliniko
The price is a flat fee per band of practitioners — one, then two to five, then six to eight — with unlimited admin users, locations and patients. That makes a three-physio clinic pay the same A$95 as a five-physio one, which is generous if you are near the top of the band. SMS is the only paid extra, and telehealth is built in. Exercise prescription and claiming both come through connected apps with their own fees: Physitrack or Wibbi for exercises, the Tyro Health app for Medicare and private health funds. You pick the data region when you sign up. Cliniko pricing; our Cliniko pricing breakdown has every band in every currency, with the SMS bill.
Jane
Jane prices a plan that includes one full-time practitioner and then charges a licence per extra practitioner, half price if they book under 24 hours a week — the fairest model we found for part-time staff. SMS reminders are unlimited on Practice and Thrive. The catch for Australians is that there is no Australian price list and no Australian claiming listed; the strengths are Canadian direct billing and UK claim files, both through the Insurance Billing add-on. There is no free trial, only a demo. Jane pricing; our Jane App pricing breakdown works out the monthly bill plan by plan, in C$, US$ and £.
Nookal
Nookal has the widest claiming list here — Medicare, DVA, HICAPS, Tyro, NDIS, ACC and Healthcode — and charges for it as you use it: Medicare claims from A$0.10 each, SMS from A$0.07. The per-practitioner price drops as you add seats. Telehealth and exercise prescription come through integrations, and the patient portal is an add-on not available on Essentials. Nookal pricing.
Zanda
Zanda, formerly Power Diary, is the cheapest paid entry point: A$29 or £15 for one practitioner on Starter, which caps appointments at 1,000 (the page does not say per what period). Growth is a base price plus a fee per extra practitioner, with unlimited appointments and admin users. Medicare and DVA claims carry no extra cost; SMS is charged per message and email reminders are free. It also offers a 12-month money-back guarantee. Zanda pricing.
WriteUpp
A UK product that has been around since 2009, with the most generous SMS allowance among the per-message crowd: 100 a month on Solo, 100 per clinician on Group, and top-ups beyond that. Solo includes online booking; Flex, the cheaper pay-as-you-go option, charges for booking and includes no SMS. The Group page is ambiguous about how many clinicians the base price covers, so treat our three-clinician figure as a reading, not a quote. WriteUpp pricing.
Halaxy
Halaxy's core — bookings, email reminders, records and invoicing, for unlimited practitioners — is free. It makes money from credits (SMS, video telehealth, claims at one credit each) and from payment processing fees if you take payments through it. For a small Australian practice that claims a lot, the credits add up, but there is no subscription to argue about. Halaxy pricing.
TM3
UK only, priced per user, with online booking, telehealth, reminders and Healthcode integration on the cheapest plan. It lists SMS both as included and as an add-on without a price, so ask what a month of reminders costs at your volume. There is no trial, only a demo. TM3 pricing.
New Zealand, Ireland and Canada
- New Zealand: Cliniko is NZ$49 for one practitioner and NZ$99 for two to five; Zanda uses the same numbers as in Australia, in NZD. For ACC, Nookal handles claims natively (free on Professional) and Cliniko through third-party apps; we found no ACC support in Zanda or Halaxy. Nookal shows New Zealand visitors its Australian prices.
- Ireland: Cliniko €39 and €79; Zanda €19 and €67; Nookal €65 per practitioner, falling to €50 per extra seat; WriteUpp Solo €32.95.
- Canada: Jane is the strongest fit if you direct-bill: TELUS eClaims, Teleplan and Pacific Blue Cross, through the Insurance Billing add-on. Its Practice plan comes to C$149 for three full-time practitioners. Cliniko is C$49 and C$99; Zanda C$25 and C$115.
Exercise apps are a separate bill
Most of the products above do not include home exercise programmes; they connect to an exercise app that you pay for separately. Physitrack, the most common one, costs A$30.99 or £19.49 plus VAT per practitioner per month, so a three-physio clinic adds around A$93 to its bill. Put it in the comparison if your patients get exercise programmes, because it can double the cost of the practice software itself. Physitrack pricing.
Where Physioly fits, and where it does not
What we do: clinical records with specialty assessment forms, a pain scale with a progress chart, home exercise programmes with 3D demonstrations included in every plan, session packages and overdue payments, a diary per practitioner with group classes, and PDF reports. Each patient gets a personal link — sent by WhatsApp or any messenger — with their upcoming appointments, attendance confirmation and exercises; they do not install anything or create an account. The free plan never expires, and paid plans are US$29, US$39 and US$65 a month for solo practitioners and US$95 for a clinic of up to three.
What we do not do, and some of the products above do:
- No claiming. No Medicare, DVA, HICAPS, ACC, Healthcode or Canadian direct billing. If your practice claims from its software, Physioly is the wrong choice today.
- No SMS. The patient confirms through their link, and the system writes the WhatsApp message for you to send.
- No patient self-booking and no built-in video: online sessions use the link to your own Zoom or Google Meet room.
- No accounting sync with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks.
- We bill in US dollars, so your bank's exchange rate applies.
Try it with a real week
The first seven days have no limits at all, and the free plan carries on afterwards, with no card. It is the cheapest way to see whether the software fits your diary before you pay for anything on this list.
Create a free account → No card. No contract. How to choose for your situation
- You claim from the software (Medicare, DVA, HICAPS, ACC, Healthcode): the choice is between the products that do it natively — Nookal has the widest list, Zanda and Halaxy are cheapest in Australia, TM3 and WriteUpp are built around UK insurers.
- You are solo and want to spend as little as possible: Zanda Starter, Halaxy's free core or Physioly's free plan. Run a real week on each before paying.
- You have part-time physios: Jane's half-price part-time licence and Cliniko's practitioner bands both treat part-timers better than a flat per-seat price.
- Reminders are the thing you care about most: Jane (unlimited on Practice and Thrive) or WriteUpp (100 per clinician), then count how many you send a month on the others.
- Your patients get exercise programmes: add the exercise app to the price of everything except Physioly, which includes them.
Five questions before you sign
- What does a month of reminders cost at my real appointment volume?
- Is claiming included, charged per claim, or an add-on with its own subscription?
- How many practitioners does the base price include, and what does the next one cost?
- Is there a minimum term, and can I pay month to month?
- How do I export my patients and their notes if I leave?
The fifth is the one almost nobody asks and the one it hurts most not to have asked. Software you cannot take your data out of has no exit price: you pay it in years.
Questions we get asked
What is the best physiotherapy software in Australia?
It depends on whether you claim from the software. If you bill Medicare, DVA or private health funds from your system, look at Cliniko (through the Tyro Health app), Nookal, Zanda or Halaxy. If you want a free core with pay-as-you-go extras, Halaxy. If you do not claim and want a free plan or a flat price for up to three practitioners, Physioly.
How much does physiotherapy practice management software cost?
On 28 September 2026, a solo practitioner in Australia paid from A$29 to A$49 a month excluding GST (Zanda Starter A$29, Cliniko A$45, Nookal A$49), and in the UK from £15 to £39 (Zanda £15, WriteUpp Solo £27.95, Cliniko £29, TM3 £39). Three practitioners cost roughly A$95 to A$161 or £55 to £117, before SMS, which most products charge per message.
Is there free physiotherapy software?
Yes, with limits. Halaxy has a free core with paid credits for SMS, telehealth and claims. Physioly has a free plan for good, with 1 patient after an unlimited first week. Cliniko, Nookal and WriteUpp offer 30-day trials and Zanda 14 days, all without a card.
Which physiotherapy software includes SMS reminders?
Jane includes unlimited SMS reminders on its Practice and Thrive plans, depending on the region, and WriteUpp includes 100 a month per clinician on Solo and Group. Cliniko, Nookal, Zanda and Halaxy charge per message. Physioly does not send SMS: the patient confirms through a personal link and you send a prepared WhatsApp message yourself.
Does Physioly support Medicare, HICAPS, ACC or Healthcode claiming?
No. Physioly does not do insurance or health fund claiming in any country. If your practice claims from its software, choose one of the products that do.
